incredibly strange best worst movie

Katie had her second Incredibly Strange Movie night at our place this past Friday night. It's the one year anniversary of our legendary Troll 2 Party. The party that made it into the documentary we watched, Best Worst Movie!

As you can see we had everything set-up outdoors, but right before 9pm, the rain started. It was a wash-out, but it wasn't a problem to move everything indoors.

I was happy to be able to make it through most of the movie this time around. In the evenings lately I end up getting exhausted without even realizing how tired I really am and I barely remember getting into my pajamas and into bed. Pregnancy can be exhausting, but I know I'm a pretty energetic expectant mom in comparison to what most women go through. Maybe it's my morning coffee - the one habit I just can't drop.

Sunday my brother & sister-in-law flew in from Calgary. We held a shower for them and their soon to be baby girl. It was exciting to see an expectant Sara and compare pregnancy notes. Come to find out there are very few similarities between my and her pregnancy. I think mine is just atypical. I had a lot of family mentioning how they'd never know I was expecting - no baby bump. Trust me, I wish it was there. Last night at prenatal yoga, the instructor calls me the 'big belly of the class'. But I was reassured by the instructor and every mom in the class that I'll be there soon. One day I'll just pop.

best worst movie - it's the best!

Last night we went to the first screening of the Best Worst Movie documentary at the Hot Docs film festival. We've been anticipating this release for over a year now. Remember our Troll 2 backyard screening from a year ago? Well, we made it into the film!

The documentary follows George Hardy, who plays the father in Troll 2, through discovering the underground cult hit Troll 2 had become years later after the straight to VHS release. We see him embracing the status, letting it get to his head and his coming to terms with his life and the impact the film has had on him. He and Michael Stephenson (who played the son and directs BWM) tour around, visiting fans at screenings, parties and conventions. Through the documentary we learn about the cast and the types of people they are - all of whom are so interesting and characteristic. It also documents the search for lost cast members (Margot Prey, who played the mother) and the Italian director, Claudio Fragasso and his partner Rossella who wrote Troll 2. Part of the documentary plays out good vs. evil with George Hardy as the loveable ecentric and Claudio as the disillusioned brooding tyrant.

The documentary clears up the biggest question any Troll 2 fan could have about the movie. How could this have ever been made? We see clearly how the movie was cast and the direction it took through Claudio's vision.

I'm really happy for Micheal Stephenson. The people who created Best Worst Movie are pleased with how the documentary turned out and seem really proud. The reviews for it have been AWESOME. And we just loved it! I can't wait to watch it again, and again, and again. Who knows, I may end up watching it more than Troll 2.

best worst movie

This past weekend was our Troll 2 weekend! We had a Troll 2 screening in our backyard on Friday night and then went to the Toronto Screening at the Bloor Cinema Saturday night.
"Look, they prepared a whole feast!"
Katie was dressed as the first goblin victim, Cindy and I was dressed as Creedence!

The party in our backyard was hosted by my sister, Katie. In attendance we had George Hardy (who plays Micheal Waits, the father) and Micheal Stevenson (who plays the son, Joshua Waits).

Katie, me, Nuno (dressed as Preacher Bells), George Hardy and Micheal Stevenson

This was their first trip to Canada, so we really hoped to show them Canadian hospitality. This included a backyard barbecue, games (Trollympic games), an outdoor screening of the movie and a Q&A.

Michael is currently working on a documentary called 'Best Worst Movie' on the renewed interest in the film which includes finding lost cast members 20 years later, the fans and their world-wide Troll 2 screenings in all major cities. He was filming throughout most of the evening, so it would be pretty rad if we ended up appearing in his documentary.

Saturday was the first time we got a chance to see Troll 2 on the big screen with hundreds of other fans. It was a total blast hearing all the laughter every 30 seconds making the movie funnier than ever!
What an awesome weekend!
