stiff and sunburnt
I'm still aching from a Saturday full of gardening fun. At the time it was not painful at all, digging around in the bright sun. With loads of trees in our backyard I felt shaded, however by evening a t-shirt sunburn emerged.
The plan on Saturday was to get one of the gardens in order by transplanting the lilies of the valley in a circle enclosing the rose bush, hosta and mint plants. That meant picking out all the dead plants, pulling all the stray grass and weeds and finishing with a pile of mulch.
The most amazing part of the day was the Rankin Cancer Run passing by the backyard where thousands of runners and walkers passed as we gardened away.
:: oh man, the runners are in this photo but I'm sure they are too small to see. oh well, at least you can see hot tot, who was having a blast cheering on the run. just click on the photo for a full view ::

Sunday was spent at Marcie's shower put on by my sister-in-law, Maggie. I swear she must have been the school over-achiever with all the games, swag and 40 item buffet - all while dealing with a one year old son! I wonder who was crazy enough to start the tradition of having showers on Sunday? Us ladies who work on Mondays need at least a day to recoup from the hosting and clean-up.

I saw this great segment on the Martha Stewart show the other day where she had a group of girls from a local sewing class sharing their reversible purse design.
Here it is online.
It seems like a great simple starter project as I have yet to create anything from scratch on my sewing machine.
There's my Hello Kitty Janome. It's really cute on the craft table.

Degrassi has it's new generation, now it's successor Beverly Hills 90210 has created a new spin off series. The show which coincidently will star one of Degrassi TNG's main characters, Darcy, will air on the CW network. Luckily, we can hook up our antenna and catch CW - at least till February.
I have to wonder what tone the new 90210 will take considering the original series took itself quite seriously. After the OC set the ironic standard (which I must admit, wears thin fast), will BH 90210 run along the same vein? Will some of the original cast show up in episodes? But the most burning question of all - will the show be totally lame?

Looks like I've come down with the flu. Luckily it's Victoria Day and everything is closed for the day. I'm planning spending the day on couch cuddling Hot Tot with a cup of tea and watching Performance.
Did I not totally score in the husband department? Nuno suprised me this past week by ordering the Mick Jagger trippy cult classic, Performance. And my lovely husband has taken on the laundry resposiblity as I try to get better. Maybe feeling under the weather isn't such a bad thing.

The long weekend has found me starting a new blog. I'm really excited to get back into the swing of writing.
Nuno and I stopped around Olson's bakery for lunch today. They make an amazing sandwich of prosciutto, pears, grainy mustard and melty gooey brie on a fresh baguette. At the table next to us was a couple who frequents the bakery - so much so I recognized them from their appearance on Anna's show 'Fresh'. They had the most adorable bull terrier! They let me give the little guy a cookie from the bakery and he nearly took off my thumb and forefinger. I actually jumped back because I was so startled. And his bite really did smart. Of course I didn't let on.
I just baked a fresh batch of rocky road brownies to bring over to my parents for dinner tonight.
My mom's making her first attempt and copying the Keg's spinach salad which includes mandarin oranges, dried cranberries and almonds. Sounds like a dessert more than a salad.
The sun just came out and there is loads of action along the canal and on the bird feeder. So I think I'll sit on the porch with Hot Tot and enjoy these few moments of sunshine.
